This week’s @fischersbaslow floral arrangement is a celebration of British-grown beauty 🌿✨

Every stem has been grown right here on our little cutting patch — a true reflection of the season at its very best. There’s nothing quite like working with flowers when they’re naturally at their peak.

A soft, romantic mix filled with peonies, astrantia, peach-toned roses, and delicate foxgloves, with layers of scent and texture from fennel leaves and chocolate mint. Sweet peas on the vine bring their beautiful fragrance, while ladies mantle adds the perfect pop of zesty lime green.

Inspired by the English countryside, we created two deconstructed ceremony arches filled with meadow-inspired blooms, hedgerow textures, and delicate blush tones woven through soft whites and fresh greens. Mini floral meadows lined the aisle, incorporating dried elements such as honesty, before being repurposed as table centrepieces later in the day.

To draw the eye towards the ceremony space, we dressed the chandeliers with cascading asparagus fern and ivy, creating movement and bringing the outdoors in.

At this time of year, when the gardens are bursting into life, it’s such a joy to incorporate seasonal cuttings into the arrangements wherever possible. Guests often ask, “Are any of the flowers from the garden?” — and the answer is very often yes. Whether it’s flowers, foliage or delicate textures gathered from the grounds, we always try to bring a little of the outside in.

Alongside the garden cuttings, we love working with other seasonal and locally grown flowers and foliage too, creating arrangements full of natural movement, texture and interest.

This week’s arrangement featured beautiful pink peonies, delicate orange geums and rich damson-toned physocarpus foliage with tiny flowers that perfectly complemented the softer tones of the larkspur, spray roses, astrantia and carnations already within the design. We finished the arrangement with grasses and rosemary, adding movement, lightness and a soft garden fragrance throughout the space.

Red isn’t always the go to colour for wedding flowers as it’s strong, bold, richly pigmented — and naturally draws the eye more than almost any other shade. But don’t let that put you off using it in your floral arrangements.

The key to working beautifully with red is understanding its undertones. Is it a blue-based red with cooler tones, or more of an orange-based red with warmth running through it? Once you identify that, pairing becomes much easier.

Cooler, blue-toned reds look beautiful alongside lilacs, dusky pinks and crisp whites, creating something soft and elegant. Warmer, orange-toned reds sit more naturally with peaches, corals and terracotta shades for a richer, sun-soaked palette.

Wedding flowers are an investment and one thing I always encourage with wedding flowers is finding ways to maximise both your budget and your flowers throughout the day 🌿✨

The best way to do this? Reuse your ceremony flowers in the reception space. Not only does this make the most out of flowers it allows your designs to be seen & appreciated for longer throughout the day.

Large installations such as floral meadows, arches, urn arrangements, plinth designs, or floral clouds can all be moved and restyled around the reception — whether that’s at the entrance, cake table, bar, top table, or lounge areas.

Bud vases lining the aisle can later become table decorations, and bridesmaids’ bouquets can be placed into vases on reception tables to keep them fresh while doubling as décor.

Another great option is incorporating plants, especially hydrangeas, into installations. They’re often more cost-effective than individual stems, create lots of impact, and can later be replanted or gifted as favours.

Poppy wanted to say thank you for a busy week 💐

We got to meet lots of lovely new people who were very happy to make a fuss of Poppy (which she was very happy about) and it’s been such a joy seeing so many beautiful arrangements and bouquets leave the shop — many for celebrating the birth of a baby, and plenty for those “just because” moments 🤍

You can probably spot the very first peonies starting to make an appearance… and we’ll be making sure to stock them for as long as the season allows 🌸

A little note for next week: we will be closed on Saturday 25th as I’ll be heading down to London to watch my brother run the London Marathon on Sunday 🏃‍♂️

Our last day for collections and deliveries will be Friday 24th — so please make sure to get your orders in with plenty of time.

Artisan designed florals hand crafted from our little shop in the heart of Bakewell.

We see floristry as a form of art, reflecting the textures and colours of natures palette.

With a love of thoughtful and creative designs we aim to evoke the charm of an English garden by

using the finest hand selected flowers where every stem is unique; these could be British grown or from overseas.

Flowers are for all occasions whether it be one of our signature bouquets wrapped in hessian, bespoke weddings flowers capturing

a moment in time or farewell flowers to celebrate the memory of a loved one.

Within the shop we stock a range of plants, homewares and gifts with a focus on supporting local artisans.

We offer local delivery and for same day delivery please call us before 12pm.
